In 2019 Amazon started a pilot program to provide virtual primary and urgent care services for their employees.
I really thought Amazon would save our healthcare system when I heard they were getting involved in healthcare. This is it, American innovation at its finest. This rapidly expanded into partnerships with employers. Sadly, Amazon Care is ceasing operations at the end of 2022.
If Amazon can’t fix it, we’re really in trouble. Amazon realizes our healthcare system is ripe for reinvention, but of course they’re getting involved to make a profit. Hey, if it works for all stakeholders, then it works.
I don’t think healthcare access and/or coverage should be tied to our employer.
Amazon Care, please don’t give up on healthcare, we need your help. Let’s start thinking outside the box, what does this look like if employers are no longer involved in healthcare? Do we have the courage it takes to make this transformation?
