108 Decisions: How I Lost Everything, Then Found It All in Las Vegas (A True Story by Lisa Lindell)

“This is a brisk, engaging book that captures the complexity, pain, and poignancy of family relationships, the search for love and sex, and the fallout of unexpected catastrophe in a fully real, relatable, and sometimes heartbreaking and frustrating way. I love it!” – Dr. Elizabeth DeNoma

In the wake of her husband Curtis’ life-threatening injuries and protracted hospital stay, Lisa Lindell attempts to stich her family’s life back together. She tries to salvage something of the lessons she’s learned navigating the broken American healthcare system and worker rights environment to further patient’s right and medical accountability, with some success. She finishes her first book, is featured in a documentary on the subject, and starts speaking across the country.

But change proves hard to affect. Moreover, Curtis has suffered more than simple physical injuries, and his cognitive impairment, inability to work consistently, and the emotional trauma of his experiences have left them fragmented as a couple. Several years after his release from the hospital, he and Lisa decide to call it quits.

With the kids on their own, suddenly single, without the all-consuming focus on issues that demanded her attention for a decade, Lisa finds herself at loose ends. She throws herself into the world of on-line dating, her new job, and into mastering the art of poker.
But dating in the 21st Century proves to be a strange, unsatisfying experience, and that, combined with a series of jobs what weren’t all they promised, leads Lisa to leave Texas for the promise of Las Vegas. One disappointment after another finds Lisa at the bottom of her personal journey, eking out an existence in a city where she has no friends and ever-dwindling resources. Ultimately, she discovers her true passion and risks everything to make her dreams come true…

Lisa Lindell

Lisa Lindell is the the author of two books, the first “108 Days,” details her family’s journey through the shockingly incompetent medical system they were forced to navigate after her husband’s hospitalization with a severe burn injury. In the wake of its publication Lindell became an outspoken patients’ right activist, authoring numerous articles on the subject, appearing in a documentary on the subject, and agitating for legislative reform.

Her second book, “108 Decisions,” details the ups and downs in her life in the wake of her husband’s eventual discharge from the hospital. Brutally honest and unflinching, “108 Decisions” shows us the realities involved in the search for love, sex, and stability in mid-life.

She hopes her stories motivate, comfort, educate, or simply entertain.

Lisa resides in Las Vegas and is a professional poker player.
