Employers Don’t Want to be in the Healthcare Business

Here is an interesting and informative blog about how healthcare came to be tied to our jobs:

This goes back to WWII.  It’s time for that to change.

In a survey conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation, they found nearly 90% of large employers believe the cost of providing benefits to employees will become unsustainable in 5-10 years, and 85% believe the government will be required to intervene.

How Corporate Executives View Rising Health Care Cost and the Role of Government – Findings

Aren’t we already there?  I am not a fan of big government, however we have no other alternative than to have a single payor system, and in regard to healthcare, there will have to be price controls to mitigate the waste and corruption that currently exists.  Why are we putting up with this?!  The government is ALREADY enmeshed in our healthcare system and it’s here to stay.

I view it as comparable to our educational system, a mix of public and private.  We can’t be strong as a nation for future generations without an educated and healthy population.  It is imperative that citizens have access healthcare, not only for today but for the greater good, without regard to ability to pay.  We need to start putting our foot down about this.  It will take a strong political will, one that’s stronger than osmium.
